Roy G. Kennington, CHA, is President and Chief Operating Officer of the Educational Institute of the American Hotel & Lodging Association. He is responsible for management of all programs relating to international, academic, and allied customers in over 160 countries. Kennington has been associated with the Institute for 16 years. During that time, he has held the following positions: director of allied programs; director of academic and allied programs; vice president, institutional (academic) programs; vice president, international programs; vice president, industry sales; and since 1998, senior vice president.
Kennington works closely with all departments to ensure that they fulfill the goals and objectives of the Educational Institute. He represents the Institute to clients around the world and at industry trade shows and meetings. He has worked to establish high-quality hospitality industry training and educational programs at locations worldwide, including Indonesia, Turkey, Singapore, and Morocco.
Prior to joining the Educational Institute, Kennington served for 28 years in the United States Air Force in various hospitality functions from base level to Air Staff. He retired with the rank of Colonel in 1990 as Commander of the Air Force Engineering & Services Center at Tyndall Air Force Base, Panama City, Florida. Kennington is a member of the Air Force Association and the Retired Officers Association.
Kennington holds a B.A. in Banking and Finance from the University of Mississippi and an M.S. in Education from Ball State University in Muncie, Ind. He is a graduate of Air Command and Staff College and The Industrial College of the Armed Forces. He holds the professional designation of Certified Hotel Administrator.
